Hi! I'm Kim, the owner and educator behind Highwood Dayhome.

As a Level 3 Early Childhood Educator with more than 20 years of experience, I've had the privilege of caring for hundreds of children and supporting many new educators as they begin their own careers. After two decades, I still genuinely love what I do.

Like many parents, I originally opened my dayhome so I could spend my days with my own children while building a career I was passionate about. When my own children grew older, I thought my journey in home childcare might come to an end. Instead, I realized I wasn't finished. Along the way, I had discovered something I truly loved—helping children build confidence, develop independence, and experience the joy of learning through meaningful relationships and everyday adventures.

One of the greatest privileges of my career has been mentoring future educators as they complete their practicum placements. I enjoy sharing what I've learned over the years while continuing to grow and learn alongside the next generation of early childhood professionals.

What I love most, however, is the relationships. I believe children learn best when they feel safe, respected, understood, and genuinely connected to the adults who care for them. Those trusting relationships create the confidence to take risks, solve problems, become more independent, and discover a lifelong love of learning. Every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and capable, and that belief guides everything we do at Highwood Dayhome.

Whether we're exploring Calgary's parks, hiking local trails, visiting museums, creating invitations to play, or simply sharing stories around the table, my goal is always the same: to create a place where children feel excited to arrive each morning, families feel confident leaving them in my care, and childhood is filled with curiosity, adventure, kindness, and wonderful memories.
